What Is Reiki?

reiki training seattle waMany have a misconception of energy healing. Or a fear that energy healing could interfere with personal religious or spiritual beliefs. Nothing could be further from the truth.

From a purely scientific point of view, everything, including humans are made up of energy. Albert Einstein is credited with stating, “Energy cannot be created or destroyed, it can only be changed from one form to another.” Reiki works with the universal life force energy within everyone.

How Reiki Works

By consciously connecting with the energy that breathes us, that keeps our heart beating, a Reiki practitioner essentially “gets out of the way” and allows the energy to flow through as if rushing through a water hose. The Reiki practitioner just holds the end of the hose, so to speak.

Through holding focus on this intelligent, universal life force energy, the Reiki practitioner acts as a vessel which allows the increase of energy to flow directly through them from this unseen intelligence in the universe and into the recipient.

The Reiki Experience

Many Reiki clients experience instant warmth that spreads throughout their body. One woman who was initially skeptical, described her experience by saying, “I felt like a healing, security blanket was spread over my body. Any apprehension I felt was immediately whisked away and a sense of calmness permeated each of my cells. ”

Reiki Used In Hospitals

US hospitals have been incorporating Reiki since the 1990’s. An article published in USA Today in 2008, reported that more than 800 of US hospitals offered Reiki as a regular part of patient services. Considered a complimentary service to medical practice, Reiki sessions can help patients to heal faster with less pain. A research study at Hartford Hospital in Hartford, Connecticut indicates that Reiki improved patient sleep by 86 percent, reduced pain by 78 percent, reduced nausea by 80 percent, and reduced anxiety during pregnancy by 94 percent.

Reiki Health Benefits

Reiki isn’t just used in hospital sessions. It can be used to lower stress levels and aid in relaxation by triggering the body’s natural healing ability. Other benefits include:

Reiki can be facilitated with light touch hands on healing or without touching. As complimentary care, Reiki can be used to aid in healing the body, maintaining balanced health as well as increasing vitality and energy.
